Am Yisrael."

A MESSAGE FROM RABBI SHLOUSH

Dear Friends,

Comprised of more than seven hundred and fifty rabbis, the New York Board of Rabbis (NYBR) is the largest interdenominational rabbinic body in the world and the face of the New York Jewish community to the broader world. Our leadership joins together in countless ways to accomplish goals that are instrumental to the Jewish community.

The NYBR sponsors Chaplains serving at assisted living facilities, mental health centers, developmentally disabled group homes and correctional institutions. We also provide clergy training for dealing with family violence prevention, anti-bullying education and child protection workshops for the Jewish and interfaith communities.

We have extensive relationships with the Archdiocese of New York and the Council of Churches of the City of New York. Our leadership meets regularly via the Commission of Religious Leaders, Evangelical /NYBR Roundtable and Muslim-Jewish Dialogue.

The NYBR is constantly working to make Israel’s case reminding the world that “Israel is a beacon of light in an ocean of darkness.” We meet with officials at the United Nations to confront challenges directed against Israel. When missiles were launched against Israel from Gaza, we took a bipartisan solidarity mission to Israel with Congressman Peter King (R) and Governor David Paterson (D).

We are creating a cutting-edge document “Boundary Guidelines for Synagogues” -recommended protocol for all our communities to avoid even the appearance of impropriety.

Through Synagogue Connect - a project initiated by some of our past Presidents - we are working hard to reach out to the millennial generation. We now have more than three hundred congregations signed on to offer free High Holiday tickets in order to reach and engage this critical demographic.

We also very much want to build partnerships with Lay Advisory because we need one another and can learn so much from each another.

I hope you will join me in supporting this unique and important organization which represents all of Am Yisrael. We welcome your participation in our communal and professional programs and events as both a contributor and participant.

With sincere gratitude,

Rabbi Gideon Shloush, NYBR President
